The Grapes for the White Wine

Fernão Pires

The grapes variety Fernão Pires is the most significant in the area and one that is more present into the blends of white wine from the Tejo region. The success of this variety lies in its high production capacity, good precocity and high aromatic intensity reminiscent especially to flowers like roses and

Chardonnay

It is the best known and most famous of the white wine varieties and being originally from France is spread throughout the world. It’s an easy grape in every way. It gives rise to appealing wine aromas and flavors that reflect much of the region where it is located. In the best examples, remember fresh butter, tropical fruit, peaches, tobacco and also vanilla, especially if it is fermented into new oak. In the simplest wine shows aromas of melon, pear and apple. It also gives rise to mild taste wines and sweet due to the high alcohol content it contains. The Chardonnay grape is a very adaptable to various soil types and climates and very versatile in terms of winemaking techniques.

Sauvignon Blanc

White relative of the red grape Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc is today the second most planted white variety in France, just after the Semillon. Left for other places where it was more successful than in his native region. With a huge tolerance to heat, it produces distinction of wines in most areas where it is grown. The Sauvignon Blanc has great acidity and often exhibit melon on the nose and taste.
